Pope Leo XIV discusses migration and peace with Portugal's president

Pope Leo XIV discussed migration and Portugal's socioeconomic situation with Portuguese President António José Martins Seguro during an audience at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican on September 24. The meeting, part of the regular dialogue between the Holy See and Portugal, also covered international and regional matters.

Seguro also met Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Holy See's Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. The Holy See Press Office said the talks took place in a cordial atmosphere and that both sides expressed satisfaction with the strength of bilateral relations.

The discussions covered Portugal's socioeconomic development and the promotion of the common good, along with regional and international questions. The talks gave particular attention to the consequences of armed conflicts around the world and to migration. They also stressed the value of multilateralism, respect for international law and the need for a firm commitment to peace.
