Privacy and legal notice

This page explains who is behind Church Gazette, what happens to any personal data you give us, and what we place on your device.

1. Who runs this site

Church Gazette is owned by Asociación Cultural Cauro (tax ID G-83197.913), a Spanish non-profit association. Ordinary technical and commercial management is carried out by Info Madrid Comunicación y Prensa, S.L. (tax ID B-86.298.205), registered at Calle Gobelas 17, bajo, 28023 Madrid, Spain, under a services agreement.

Info Madrid Comunicación y Prensa, S.L. is the data controller for personal data collected through this website, including messages sent to the newsroom, any subscription, advertising arrangements and the analytics described below. Asociación Cultural Cauro is the controller for donations and for institutional agreements it signs directly.

2. What this site does

Church Gazette publishes news, analysis and opinion on the Catholic Church, and manages advertising space and editorial collaborations. Using the site makes you a user of it and implies acceptance of these terms. You agree to use the content and services properly, and not for anything unlawful or contrary to good faith or public order.

3. What data we collect and why

We do not require you to register, and we do not ask for personal data to read the site. We process personal data when you give it to us, and when you allow measurement cookies.

Messages you send us. When you write to any of our addresses we process your email address and whatever you put in the message, in order to answer you and, where relevant, to report the story. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a newsroom and answering the people who write to it.
Audience measurement. If you accept, we use Marfeel and Google Analytics to understand which articles are read and how people arrive. Legal basis: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Advertising and collaborations. Contact details of advertisers and collaborators, to manage the relationship. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Server logs. Our web server records the IP address, the page requested and the time, as any web server does, to keep the site available and secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in the security of the service.

4. Cookies and measurement

Nothing that measures you is loaded until you choose. When you first arrive, a notice offers you Accept or Reject:

If you reject, no analytics scripts are loaded at all. We store one entry in your browser's local storage recording that choice, so that we do not ask you again. That entry is not sent anywhere.
If you accept, we load Marfeel and Google Analytics, which set their own cookies and identifiers to count visits and measure reading.

To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser and the notice will appear again.

5. Who else sees your data

We do not sell personal data. Data may be handled by the providers who make the site work: our hosting provider, and, if you accepted measurement, Marfeel and Google, each acting under their own terms. Those providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; where they do, transfers rely on the safeguards those companies have in place, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

6. How long we keep it

Correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to the story or the relationship it concerns, and then deleted. Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes. Analytics data is kept for the retention period configured in each tool.

7. Your rights

You may ask us for access to your personal data, and for it to be corrected, deleted, restricted or ported. You may object to processing based on legitimate interest, and you may withdraw consent for measurement at any time. Write to dpo@churchgazette.com.

If you are in the European Union and believe we have not handled your request properly, you may complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (www.aepd.es).

8. Liability

Asociación Cultural Cauro, as owner, and Info Madrid Comunicación y Prensa, S.L., as manager, are not liable for damages of any kind arising from errors or omissions in the content, from the site being unavailable, or from the transmission of viruses or malicious software, notwithstanding the technical measures adopted to prevent it. Neither is responsible for the content of external pages linked from this site, which is the responsibility of whoever publishes them.

9. Copyright

The contents of this site, including text, photographs, design and source code, are protected by intellectual property law. Reproducing, distributing or publicly communicating them without written authorisation is not permitted, except where the law allows quotation with attribution.

10. Changes to this page

We may update this notice when the site changes. The version published here is the one in force.
