Cardinal Fernández to address artificial intelligence at Madrid university event
The prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith will speak on September 30 at Comillas Pontifical University about the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence in light of the papal encyclical Magnifica Humanitas
Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, will visit Madrid on September 30 to discuss the challenges of artificial intelligence at an academic conference convened by Comillas Pontifical University. The event, titled "The lessons of the Encyclical Letter Magnifica Humanitas: an AI centered on people," will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.
The Diego de Pantoja Observatory is organizing the event, where Fernández will give a 45-minute presentation together with Andrés Allamand, a former foreign minister of Chile and the current Ibero-American secretary general. The Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) has confirmed that both will take part.
The university's rector, Antonio Allende Felgueroso SJ, will introduce the session. Other speakers include José María Lassalle, a professor at the university; Marta Pedrajas, a philosopher and economist; and J. Alejandro Kawabata, SEGIB's director of legal and institutional affairs.
The event aims to encourage reflection on the doctrinal questions raised by artificial intelligence and to prepare the ground for the Meeting of Ministers responsible for Digitalization and AI on November 3. The conference also comes ahead of the 30th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, set for November 4 and 5 in Madrid.
