Vice President Vance calls on the Church to apply immigration teaching with more nuance

Speaking on a podcast hosted by EWTN's Raymond Arroyo, JD Vance said welcoming the stranger and a nation's right to control its borders are not contradictory, and said he has not decided whether to run for president in 2028

Vice President JD Vance said the Catholic Church should apply its teaching on immigration with greater precision and discernment, without ignoring either of the two realities at stake. He made the comments on a podcast hosted by Raymond Arroyo, an anchor with the Catholic network EWTN and a contributor to Fox News.

Vance said the teaching of "welcoming the stranger" and the principle that "nations have a right to control their borders" are not contradictory positions, but two realities that should be applied with more nuance. He said he would "never accuse the Church of being naive," but said he would like the Church's hierarchy to apply both principles with greater nuance.

The vice president's political future

Vance also discussed his political future on the same program. He said he has not yet decided whether he will run for president of the United States in the 2028 election.
