Spanish Catholic band Hakuna earns Latin Grammy nomination for album 'Tú'

Hakuna Group Music, a Spanish Catholic band, has been nominated for best Christian album in Spanish at the 2026 Latin Grammy Awards for its record Tú. The nominations were announced on September 16, 2026, at an official event attended by the Christian singer Marcos Witt, who spoke about the value of Christian music and its ability to carry biblical messages along with values such as love and tolerance.

The band members were taken by surprise and said so right away on social media, where they wrote that they were "completely in shock."

Hakuna will compete against other names in Spanish-language Christian music: Majo y Dan with Dos contigo, Sarahí Rivera with Inquebrantable, the collaborative project Eterno, by Marcos Witt, Marco Barrientos and Marcos Vidal, and Alex Zurdo with Bypass.

A career marked by musical innovation

Hakuna Group Music mixes contemporary sounds with lyrics that express the Catholic faith and the desire for a personal encounter with God. Since its beginnings the group has kept to its founding motto: "they sing what they live and live what they sing," a phrase that sums up how its members see the relationship between the spiritual life and artistic work.

Its songs have featured at prayer gatherings and events run by Spanish-speaking Catholic communities, with an audience made up mainly of young people. In June 2026 the band played at a youth vigil in Madrid's Plaza de Lima presided over by Pope Leo XIV.
