Most US voters oppose gender transition procedures for minors, poll finds
A Zogby Analytics survey of 1,003 likely voters conducted for Concerned Women for America found that two thirds back pro-life policies, oppose gender ideology for minors and support parental rights ahead of the 2026 midterm elections
A survey of 1,003 likely voters conducted by Zogby Analytics for the advocacy group Concerned Women for America (CWA) found voter support for pro-life policies, policies on gender and parental rights ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Some 67.6 percent of respondents said they favor ending mail-order abortion and restoring the requirement for an in-person medical consultation before abortion pills are dispensed. Another 63.9 percent said they oppose hormones or "transition" surgeries for minors, and 69.3 percent said it is important that candidates keep men out of women's locker rooms and sports programs.
More than 60 percent named rising food prices, crime, public safety, national security and religious freedom as priorities. Some 59 percent said it was important to protect children from gender ideology, to secure educational and parental rights in schools and to address border security. And 53.1 percent said protection of the unborn and reproductive policy mattered to them.
Concern over media content and motherhood policies
Some 60 percent of voters said they are concerned about LGBT content in Netflix productions aimed at children. Some 79.6 percent said they want government policies that make full-time motherhood easier, and 79 percent said companies that subsidize abortion should also cover the option of choosing life.
CWA president Penny Nance said "candidates running for office this year must recognize that voters broadly support protecting women's health, the ability to raise children, fairness in women's sports and protecting children from gender transitions." Nance said she was optimistic about the findings and called them a "map" for conservative candidates.
National trend on cultural issues
The findings track with other national polling. An April 2025 survey by Cygnal found 66 percent of Americans oppose public funding for gender transitions. Pew Research reports that 66 percent support limiting athletic participation to members of a team's designated sex, 56 percent support banning transition procedures for minors, and 53 percent oppose requiring insurance companies to cover transition services.
A Gallup poll from June 2025 found that less than half of Democrats support allowing men to compete in women's sports. Experts say social issues remain a critical weakness for the Democratic Party after the 2024 presidential election, when "Kamala Harris is focused more on cultural issues such as gender" was the third most cited reason voters gave for not supporting her.
