Ohio Episcopal church dyes its communion bread in rainbow colors

Christ Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio, dyed its communion bread in rainbow colors during a recent service to mark LGBT pride. The initiative was led by the Rev. Peter Homeyer. The congregation describes itself as "open" and "inclusive" and devotes much of its work to promoting acceptance of different sexual orientations and to supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

At a communion service held on the fifth day after Pentecost, the church used food coloring to turn the bread "rainbow-colored" as a sign of its support for inclusion and its celebration of pride. The congregation holds that every month is Pride Month and every day is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Images of the brightly colored communion bread were posted on social media and drew a range of reactions from the faithful and the wider community.
